Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pilot’s Badge, Refurbished Thin Wreath Variant, by F.W. Assmann & Söhne Province of China titled “U-Bootsmänner” (U boat men)(Flugzeugfhrerabzeichen). Constructed of tombak and nickel silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse wiht a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a thin wreath variant produced by F. W. Assmann & Shne, Ldenscheid, measuring 62. 74
